As you all know, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam recently suggested that if an unwanted child is born, the infant should be “kept comfortable” while the family and physician decide if the child should live or die. The right was outraged. The left, not so much. If the life of a baby could be legally taken minutes before delivery, why should there be outrage if the baby is killed right after birth?

The acceptance of infanticide in this country is beyond shocking. Yet, how is late-term abortion any different? In that respect, the left is at least being consistent.

This is our moment to say “no more!”

America is one of only seven countries worldwide (including China and North Korea) who allow elective late-term abortions. It has been scientifically proven that babies at 20 weeks feel pain during an abortion, yet this inhumane practice continues.

While we would prefer to ban all abortion, most Americans agree that late-term abortion is a step too far. Regardless of where someone is politically, they simply can’t defend this horrific, painful procedure. The medical community readily admits that it is never medically necessary to kill a baby for the life or health of the mother, yet the vast majority of late term abortions are done for socioeconomic reasons. In situations where the mother’s life or health is in danger and separation of the baby from the mother via early delivery must occur, intentionally killing the baby in the process is never medically necessary. It is unconscionable that America has allowed this heinous, senseless procedure to continue for so long. As Governor Northam’s comments show, infanticide is often accepted alongside late-term abortion.

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Act has just been introduced by Senators Grassley and Ernst in the Senate and by Rep. Chris Smith in the House of Representatives.
