Rick Santorum Announces CRPD News Conf

The following is from an email to Patriot Voices members dated November 21, 2012:

As we all prepare to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, I wanted to drop you a quick note about something Karen and I will be doing on Monday that is very close to our hearts.

Karen and I will join U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Michael Farris of the Home School Legal Defense Association for a news conference to voice our opposition to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  We'll be bringing our daughter Bella, our wonderful special needs little girl, because this treaty could impact her life in a very negative way.

The news conference will occur in the U.S. Capitol complex in Washington, DC at 4:30 PM ET on Monday, November 26.  Once we have the exact location, we will notify you and if you are in DC, please join us.

Many of you are familiar with CRPD since Patriot Voices has been very vocal about this misguided treaty. CRPD, if ratified, threatens U.S. sovereignty and parental rights and would effectively put us under international law when it comes to parenting our special needs children.  One provision in the treaty would give the government, acting under U.N. instructions, the ability to determine for all children with disabilities what is best for them.  It would also give the U.N. discretion over decisions about how special needs kids are educated and could potentially eliminate parental rights for the education of children with disabilities.

This is serious, and Karen and I very concerned about what this treaty could mean for us and parents of special needs kids across this country. Join with us as we rally our voices to oppose this treaty, and if you haven't already done so, please sign our petition opposing CRPD.

Keep up the fight,

Rick Santorum

P.S.  Karen and I want to wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving!

I don’t even have children but I do see the importance of fighting anything that threatens our sovereignty and parental rights. I have considered the UN to a be sucking leach for years, now I see it as much more. Together with the Agenda 21 issue, CRPD must not pass!

Thank you so much for bringing this important issue to the forefront. As the parent of a special needs child, I am very concerned myself and look forward to viewing the news conference, will it be recorded or streamed live?

Senator JimDeMint does not like this treaty either. He said it could
lead to disabled children being aborted. The UN is getting too involved in our lives. What gives them the right to do this ? NONE. Disabled children are beautiful gems in the world and Bella is a bright diamond. I am glad you are bringing Bella ,she will have a good psychological impact. Seeing her will make people realize children like her should be protected like other children. As someone who has deep love for children like Bella ,thank you for doing this. With Obamacare threating the lives of disabled children and the disabled adults, we need more than ever to fight for them. We must never forget them . Tell Bella Happy Thanksgiving from Colleen and that Colleen loves her! I will say a special pray for her on Thanksgiving. Colleen Costello
