(Richmond, VA) - President Trump has appointed Hardwired board member, Nadine Maenza, to serve a two-year term on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.  The USCIRF is an agency established by Congress to provide policy recommendations on how to respond to violations of religious freedom in countries where this freedom is at risk.

Hardwired President, Tina Ramirez, issued the following statement about the appointment:  "It is very encouraging that President Trump has nominated Nadine to this position.  She has been a passionate advocate for oppressed communities of every faith as long as I've known her and will bring a much-needed voice to the Commission."

Ramirez continued, "Nadine's ability to strategically move policies forward will be critical as the Commission advances religious freedom in many challenging areas of the world, such as India, Nigeria and Iraq where religious freedom has often been neglected by past Administrations."

As an advisory body, the Commission's recommendations provide important insights into how the U.S. Congress, State Department, and White House can address violations of religious freedom through U.S. policy in a way that seeks to improve conditions for oppressed people.

Hardwired's Board Vice-Chair, Dr. Eric Patterson, stated, "Nadine has been a consistent advocate for the fundamental rights of individuals, both at home and abroad.  I applaud the administration for appointing her to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom."

Other supporters issued the following statements:

Nadine Maenza joined Hardwired in 2015 on a delegation to northern Iraq where Hardwired led trainings for civil society leaders from diverse religious and belief communities in how to defend the human right to freedom of conscience and religion for all through their influence in the media, schools, legal arena and other areas.
Nadine Maenza serves as the Executive Director of Patriot Voices with a special focus on supporting policies that help working families. She worked closely with Ivanka Trump’s office at the White House to build support for expanding the child tax credit and is currently working to find a conservative solution to paid family leave. She is a founding board member of Hardwired Global, which works to stop religious oppression around the world, and has served as their Chairman since 2015. In this role, she was involved in the advocacy effort to have violence against religious minorities in Iraq labeled genocide by Congress and the Obama Administration. Her work on this subject has been published in the National Review, the Daily Signal, and The Hill.

Additionally, she has worked with The Clapham Group in advising The Gates Foundation, The College Board, The Anne E. Casey Foundation, and others on policy engagement and strategic partnerships. She previously worked as the National Finance Director for Rick Santorum for President in 2012 and for Mitt Romney for President in 2008. She also has worked with the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, the Republican National Committee, and several Members of Congress. Her political experience in Washington began on Capitol Hill working for Rep. Denny Smith of Oregon and then Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania. Nadine lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania with her husband Terry and three children.
