No Budget No Pay

The “No Budget, No Pay Act” would require members of Congress to forgo pay for every day after October 1 that they don’t adopt a budget and pass all of its spending bills.  Once members approved a spending plan and appropriated the money, they would start receiving paychecks again but couldn’t collect any retroactive pay.  The premise is simple: don’t do your job and you don’t get paid.

Sounds logical enough. When you are in the private sector, if you don’t do your job, you don’t get paid or worse you get fired.  We should expect the same from our elected officials.

Remarkably, Congress hasn’t passed a budget since 2009. The United States faces its most serious financial crisis and Senate Democrats could not be bothered to write a budget because budgets force people to make choices.  This has to change.

In the longer term, we need a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution so the federal government has to balance its budget like our states do.  And in the short term, we need a new law to start the process of fiscal reform today. The “No Budget, No Pay Act” is a good start.

Americans develop a budget within their household.  We should be able to rely on our lawmakers to do the same for our nation.  This is a core constitutional and job responsibility.

We (Americans) need to start thinking outside of the box of ways to make money. People say that our current war in Afghanistan is the longest war we have ever been in. Technically that is not true. The “Drug War” was started when Ronald Reagan was still in office. Now I don’t like drugs but let’s face it they are getting here despite the efforts of the DEA Homeland Security, and any other number of alphabet agencies. Why not have the DEA actually be the Drug dealers and keep it government controlled, tax the hell out of it and make some money. You do two things by doing this. We make money and do not spend it and we take the money out of it for the cartels in Mexico, by undercutting their prices by going from production to street level and cutting out middle men. Marijuana alone has been estimated to make up to 70% of the Mexican cartels profits, and they make a ton of money. Our economy is one big Ponzi scheme. We cannot keep up without coming up with new ways to make money. This also saves money on all the prisoners we house due to drug violations. If we make things like giving drugs or selling drugs to kids a serious felony with a minimum sentence of 30 years. We could also buy poppy from afghan farmers eliminating the Taliban’s source of income across Europe and other parts of the world, and making the afghan farmers more money than the Taliban would ever give them. Can you say winning hearts and minds? In my opinion this is a no brainer that could possibly save our country from economic collapse.
