Santorum Calls on President to Lay Out Bold Plan for Victory Against ISIS

Verona, PA - Former U.S. Senator, former Republican presidential candidate and Chairman of Patriot Voices Rick Santorum issued the following statement calling on President Obama to lay out a bold plan for victory against ISIS in his address to the nation tonight.

Senator Santorum said, "President Obama has been dangerously slow to see the gathering storm of Radical Islam.  He has been unable or unwilling to see the grave threat posed to the American people, our homeland, our economy and our allies by violent jihadists such as the Islamic State. President Obama has had no strategy to stop or defeat these jihadists, and he has undermined American leadership across the globe by saying so publicly."

"I sincerely hope that the President has come to see the shortcomings of his foreign policy in the Middle East and will lay out a new direction in his speech to the nation tonight," Santorum continued.

Senator Santorum believes the President should take bold, decisive action including:

  • Aggressive airstrikes
  • Covert operations
  • Special operations
  • Helping the new Iraqi government and its military with intelligence and training and logistical support
  • Arming the Kurds in northern Iraq to defend themselves
  • Providing humanitarian relief and assistance to Arab Christians and other minority groups being slaughtered by ISIS
  • Working closely with our Arab allies -- including Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states -- to defeat ISIS and other jihadists
  • Standing firm with Israel in their fight with the jihadists
  • Increasing measures to defend our homeland from terrorist attacks, including sealing our southern border once and for all from illegal immigration

"President Obama should immediately seek Congressional authorization for this offensive action against ISIS.  Furthermore, this situation is so serious that I would be supportive of additional ground troops if our military leadership deems it necessary to accomplish the task," Santorum continued.

"On the eve of another September 11th anniversary, the American people understand the threat we face and the consequences of further inaction and indecision. They are looking for leadership and they will rightly support a solid plan for victory if one is presented," Santorum concluded.
