Rick Santorum Opposes Manchin-Toomey Gun Amendment

Verona, PA - Former Republican presidential candidate and Patriot Voices chairman Rick Santorum announced today his opposition to the Manchin-Toomey gun amendment currently being considered in the United States Senate.  Senator Santorum issued the following statement about his opposition:

"I believe any gun control measure being considered must meet the following criteria: The legislation should make it harder for criminals and madmen to get guns than for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. Unfortunately, this amendment does not do that.

"This amendment will only lead to expanded background checks which will do nothing to stop criminals from obtaining guns, because criminals do not submit to background checks.  And the unintended consequence of this amendment will be the formation of a national gun registry, which would negatively impact a law-abiding citizen's ability to own a gun - a right protected by the Constitution.

"I believe we must work to stem the tide of violence, but this is a hollow measure that will not solve this problem.  If we are to be honest about putting a stop to these senseless acts of violence, we must first address the brutality in our media and the inadequacies of our mental healthcare system."

Excellent Rick, thank you for taking the stand that you have and no doubt will continue to do. Wish you would have made it in as president.

After reading this article, I’m starting to wonder who the government is trying to “protect”!
