Thank you for standing with us to voice your opposition to the ratification of CRPD.
Now, take just one more minute to find your Representative's email address HERE (will open in a new window), then send a note urging them to oppose the ratification of CRPD. Remember to include your name, address and phone number in your letter! Here's a sample letter for you to start with:
I'm following up on a letter your office recently received from Congressmen Lamborn and Duncan, urging your assistance in defeating ratification of the UN Disabilities Treaty. Would you please consider signing on to that letter in opposition to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)?
Congressmen Lamborn and Duncan raise concerns over several provisions in the letter, of which I agree:
- The establishment of a body of “experts” which would evaluate compliance
- Treaty lacks concise definition of terms like “disability”
- Include language about “sexual and reproductive health,” and the U.N has a history of expanding that to include abortion.
- Article 7 of the CRPD would give the federal government the ability to override the decisions of parents of disabled children if the government believes its views are “in the best interest of the child.”
The United States of America has the strongest record on protecting the rights of the disabled compared to other countries. This treaty will simply benefit no Americans, while risking our sovereignty.
Thanks for your consideration.
