UPDATE: On December 4, 2012, the U.S. Senate voted against CRPD! Thank you for your efforts to stop this dangerous treaty. Stay tuned for updates on future efforts to reintroduce this treaty for ratification.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) would give the U.N. oversight of the healthcare and education choices parents with special needs kids make. It is outrageous that the government could tell you and me what is best for our children, particularly when they’ve never met the child.
If this were to pass, CRPD would become the law of the land under the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause, and would trump state laws, and could be used as precedent by state and federal judges. This treaty would give the government, acting under U.N. instructions, the ability to determine for all children with disabilities what is best for them. It also would give the U.N. discretion over decisions about how we educate our special needs kids, and could potentially eliminate parental rights for the education of children with disabilities. Click here to watch Rick Santorum, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Michael Farris (Home School Legal Defense Association) voice opposition at a recent press conference on Capitol Hill.
Bottom line, it needs to be defeated.
Please help us defeat this treaty by doing the following things right now:
-Call the Capitol operator at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator. Tell your senator to oppose the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities because it jeopardizes our sovereignty and threatens our rights as parents to make decisions for our special needs kids.
-Join thousands of others and sign our petition against CRPD
-Tweet this: #CRPD threatens parental rights/US sovereignty. Call your senators/ask for "NO" (202) 224-3121 http://ptrtvoic.es/Tlh7qn
-Post this on Facebook: The US Senate will soon vote on U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This treaty threatens parental rights and US sovereignty. Please watch this video, then call your senators and ask them to vote "NO" (202) 224-3121 http://ptrtvoic.es/Tlh7qn
Remember, if just 67 senators vote in favor of this treaty, CRPD would become law of the land under the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause, would trump state laws, and could be used as precedent by state and federal judges.
It is up to parents to make choices for their children, not the government. Yet, that's exactly what this treaty will do.
Please use the tools below to spread the word about CRPD to your family, friends and social networking communities. Tell them to stand with Patriot Voices against CRPD!
