This week, Americans once again exercised their fundamental right to a free and fair election — a right that many have sacrificed their lives for and one that is denied to millions around the world. Many of us were deeply invested in this election as well.  And although we may not all be happy with the outcome, we must respect the collective will of the American people and now come together to pray for President Obama and Congress as they confront the serious challenges that face our country in the months ahead.

The violent attack on the American Ambassador and other American personnel in Benghazi, Libya, by radical Islamists brought American foreign policy jarringly back to the forefront of our consciousness. Regrettably, this tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the kind of enemy we still face in radical Islam.

Last week's news that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Iran's atomic weapons "guru," was back at work advancing the country's nuclear program, coupled with the International Atomic Energy Agency's report on Iran's doubling of uranium enrichment centrifuges at a key facility, served as grim reminders of the perilous world we live in. As Americans have largely been focused on economic and domestic issues in this presidential election cycle, the threat posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran is now larger than ever. The choice Americans will make in November is not just about who can turn around the economy and help create jobs, but also about presidential leadership on the world stage.

Upon signing the historic 1996 welfare-reform legislation, President Bill Clinton proudly proclaimed that "today, we are ending welfare as we know it." He added that he hoped "this day will be remembered not for what it ended, but for what it began."
